If you have dry socket, the first thing you should do is contact our office and schedule an appointment with your dentist, Dr. Konopka. Dry socket is a dangerous problem that occurs after a tooth has been extracted. It typically happens when the blood clot that forms over your socket is removed, leaving the bone and nerves exposed. This can happen when you use a straw, chew on that side of the mouth and more.

When you come to our office to have the dry socket treated, your dentist will likely do the following things to help:

-Clean the site of the extraction and place medications in the socket to promote healing

-Prescribe a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, like aspirin or ibuprofen to help with the pain and swelling

When you go home, it’s important to take very good care of the extraction site (by changing the dressing daily) as well as avoiding tobacco products, using a straw and doing other things that can delay the healing process.
